TOUCHDOWN...finally on the Gold Coast

Well, I have arrived in Ghana. Being back here is familiar..actually feels very comfortable. As I was awaiting my backs this morning in the airport, I turn around to the friendly greeting of Pastor Kofi and the Kontihene. It was so great to see them again. We gathered my belongings and headed over to meet the UT Maymester students at Ghana University. It was again a sigh of relief to see the faces of fellow longhorns on Ghanaian soil. I met the students for an eye opening lecture on African history that made me really think about everything I think I understand about history. There is so much in our educational experience we take for granted and accepted from a western perspective that once you are outside of the bubble of privilege it doesn't seem so solid a foundation. It was a promising experience for so many undergradautes here in the program to grapple with what they believe and know. I wish I would have embarked on this journey earlier in my life but it is timely for me to fully comprehend what I am experiencing.

I went with Pastor Kofi and Kontihene to Trashy Bags to meet with the operation manager. We picked up the items for the fashion show and discussed details of the collaborative project that is upcoming. Tonight I am at the hotel with the students about to experience a drum circle and dance lesson. The weather is cool and there is a nice breeze in the air. There is excitement in the air about what is to come. I am staying in Accra tonight and head to Patriensa in the morning. I will keep you all posted as I am able. Thanks for your thoughts and I will see you real soon!

Til then,
TimmE :)~
