I have spent the past couple of days trying to adjust to the time difference. I have arrived in Patriensa and am settling into my new summer home. Everyone has been so welcoming of my arrival. It is very quiet here. Last night a thunderstorm moved through in the evening afterdark. I sat with Pastor Kofi and his family and listened to the rain drops fall on the tin roof. It is much cooler here than on my last visit in March. Rainy season last several months and is occuring during our stay.
As we visited in the evening the electricity went out. The air was cool and there was a breeze blowing. We moved outside and continued conversing under the dark sky. All around us I could hear the people in Patriensa gathered. From the gates of the courtyard I could see periodic beams of light from flashlights. There was a hum about the place. The noise of life. I have found that although I do not know Twi, I am drawn to conversation. There are somethings I understand but most I do not, however I do not feel excluded from their presence. There is a lot of laughter here. Consistent throughout dialogue is the release of energy in this manner. It calms me. I love laughing. It, as love, is a universal language.
I look forward to the nurturing of relationships that await me. I was talking with my housemate, Prince, last night and I said I am not use to so much silence. He asked if I liked it. I think I like it, all though I told him prolonged exposure may prompt me to make some noise. He laughed and said we would invite some people over at some point and make some noise together!
Let this journey continue!
Til then,
Tim
