"...I listen to the sound of the thundering clouds and the rhythm of the rain"

(saturday post)

Today it rained. It has been warmer the past few days. Prince said during the dry season it is a sign of rain when it warms up not only during the day, but the nights too. As I was preparing for my meeting with my field instructor Peter, the sky began to cloud. Sometime around 4pm it was looking very dark and the wind began to blow (queue Wizard of Oz theme music). Around 5pm the drops started to fall. This was the first rain seen in Patriensa in three months.

Now for anyone outside of Texas, that actually can be a considerable amount of time. I found myself enchanted by being here during the beginning of the season of hope for farmers. Prince says (i may just start typing...*PS* when I quote him...because it will be a lot!) when it rains for about three or four days consecutive then the farmers begin to plant.

I brewed some water for tea, cut some apple, and enjoyed bread with jam on the veranda with Prince and we watched it rain. It was beautiful. Hard rain coming across the meadow. The grass bowed to honor the nourishing bath and the trees danced with joy for the refreshment. Interesting enough, there are bushes here in front of the guesthouse that bloom year round. The flowers are yellow and red and hide the absence of moisture with the intensity of their delicate blooms.

The rains continued into the night. I prepared my supper and retired to my room to watch some american media on my computer (thanks Alex K). I am officially addicted to The Wire. He gave me season 1-5. I sat on the bed, watched my shows, listened to the rain, and knitted! Sarah Jane, I can't wait for you to see how far I have gotten. It could be a pot holder already!

I do have to admit, several times I was lost in my surroundings and thought about ordering take out...haha! Damn American TV! I am looking forward to my next trip to Accra for Dinah's Koffee Kafe and the honey chicken. I am adjusting to the cooking here. I am mainly vegetarian here in the village. Once I get my fridge I will begin introducing protein once or twice a week to what I cook. And for those of you who helped me pack....the instant mashed potatoes have come in handy :)

Today was a good day. Today it rained. Today I rested.
